History
The Karikaturmuseum Krems has been making people laugh since 2001. But how did the museum come into being and what did Manfred Deix and Gustav Peichl, two masters of Austrian caricature, have to do with its foundation? Answers to these questions and many other interesting anecdotes about the Karikaturmuseum Krems and its history can be found here.
Architecture
In addition to the caricatures and cartoons inside the museum, the striking architecture of the Caricature Museum Krems also catches the eye. The façade greets you with an eleven-pointed jester's cap and a friendly face, and Mr. and Mrs. Austria stand in front of the door in all weathers to welcome you in sun, rain and snow. The interior of the house hides even more curiosities, from the snail-shell staircase to the glass floor that connects the two floors.
Manfred Deix
Illustrator Manfred Deix has provoked, shocked, and shattered social taboos like no other Austrian artist before him. Deix's exploration of the depths of the Austrian soul began in the early 1970s. In his poems and drawings, Deix relentlessly criticized social constraints, xenophobia, and hypocrisy.
